Looking at resources available to students for searching other than Google.

nettrekker - already filtered, can search by standard, readability level, can do safe image search!

the Power library - do we have this? Can get there through public library too. Has about 40 000 $ worth of resources on it...

Sometimes good to have students use other search engines

Some I like...searchme- visual, shows page
melzoo- also shows page by hovering over item
spific - good for narrowing down and finding specific things

Wikipedia for Schools- good for K-8 - can also get a downloaded version.

Creating a custom search engine in Google- allows me to limit what they search.
You can embed it into your page or link to it.You can also collaborate with others.
You need a google account. Go to even more. Find custom search. Name search engine, etc. Put in specific sites.
Used to be a no ad site, but appears to be gone now.

Good book "Web Literacy for Educators" by Alan November
